On September 7, 2012, Governor Cuomo signed an amendment to the New York Labor Law that loosens restrictions on employers’ ability to make authorized deductions from employees’ wages.  We reported on the amendments, the most significant of which allow employers to recoup pay advances and inadvertent overpayments, back on June 27 [include link], but, at the time, Gov. Cuomo had yet to sign.

The new law takes effect November 6, 2012, but employers should hold off on changing their policies with respect to recouping advances and inadvertent overpayments until the New York Department of Labor issues pertinent regulations as it is now required to do.
